Threshold values rarely exceeded – nitrate could become a cost driver for some waterworksDrinking water sourced from large central systems is very good quality in Germany says the latest report on drinking water quality which the Federal Environment Agency (UBA) published today. Exceedences of limit values continue to be the rare exception. Even nitrate, a problematic chemical which is present in groundwater in sometimes high concentrations – in particular where there is intensive agriculture – has no longer exceeded the limit value in drinking water for several years. At least 99 percent of monitored samples meet virtually all microbiological and chemical quality requirements to comply with the strict regulations governing drinking water. This information is based on data from the federal states (Länder) submitted to the Federal Ministry of Health (BMG) and UBA.
